In spite of its mushroom-shaped appearance the so called Fungoid is actually a land-going hydrozoan, bright red and quite conspicous as it moves in great leaps and bound through the bush-land. When approached it will eject a thick cloud of nematocysts that will inflict painful stings in contact with the skin.
In Latin, "fungus" means mushroom or fungus. This one just simply looks like some kind of mushroom (as a mushroom is a fungus).
